UK Economy at risk because of recent immigration Cap

The UK Government's own advisory committee, the Migration Advisory Committee, has stated that the British economy could suffer permanent damage if the Government continues to restrict non-EU skilled immigration.
In April of 2011, the current Government implemented a permanent cap on Tier 1 and Tier 2 skilled immigration. This followed on from the temporary immigration cap of the previous year. The popular Tier 1 (General) category no longer exists. There is a new Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) category; However, hardly anyone meets the requirements for this visa category. Moreover, Tier 2 skilled immigration for applicants with a job offer from a UK employer was capped at approximately 21,000 visas per year and, for many people, made a lot more difficult.
The measures were put in place to appease popular anti-immigration sentiment in Britain. Immigration Minister Damian Green has stated that his government intends to reduce immigration to the "tens of thousands".

Indian Couple Challenged UK Immigration Law.

An Indian woman living in the UK is unable to bring her husband to live with her in the UK due to a new law which requires spouse immigrants to speak English. The couple is now bringing a legal challenge to this law in the UK courts. British citizen Rashida Chapti applied for her husband of 34 years, Vali Chapti to come and stay with her permanently in the UK. They have six children together.
Mr. Chapti is an Indian national and does not speak, read or write English. They have gone to court in Birmingham to challenge the requirement that an overseas spouse of a British citizen or resident needs to know English to gain a marriage visa. According to them, the law "contravenes their rights to a family life, their right to marry and constitutes discrimination".
Mrs. Chapti has been travelling between the UK and India for the last 15 years. The new rule which came into effect in November of 2010 states that knowledge of English is one of the requirements for overseas spouses to gain a marriage visas in the UK. Manjit Gill, a solicitor representing the couple, told the Birmingham court that the rule is in breach of their human rights. He stated that it contravenes several articles of the European Convention on Human Rights, including the right to marry and the right not to be discriminated against.

More restriction of working for students Tire 4 Visa in UK

There have been significant changes to the Tier 4 student visa category recently. The Tier 4 student visa changes include the following:

  • You will only be able to sponsor dependants if you are a student sponsored by a higher education institution on postgraduate courses lasting 12 months or longer, and if you are a government-sponsored student on courses lasting longer than 6 months;
  • You will only be allowed to continue studying in a new course if the educational institution confirms that the new courses represent genuine academic progression from previous courses studied in the UK.
  • There will be a streamlined application process if you are considered to be a low-risk national sponsored by Highly Trusted sponsors.

Singapore will soon tight its lower level skilled immigrant rules

At a recent National Day Rally speech by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spoke about tightening immigration rules for skilled foreign workers. This has raised concerns that in future it will be more difficult for skilled overseas workers to emigrate to Singapore
"The middle, the lower middle level - foreigners are here, many on employment pass. Singaporeans are working - they are probably graduates or diploma holders, not hard up, not unskilled but not so confident of themselves that they are ready for unrestrained competition... I think at this middle level, we need to tighten a little bit further,"  the Prime Minister said.
Under new rules due to take effect in January of 2012, skilled foreign workers in certain categories will find it harder to obtain work permits. The salary threshold for Q1 pass holders, the lowest category of employment, will be raised from SGD $2,800 to SGD $3,000. The threshold for P2 employment passes will be raised from SGD $4,000 to SGD $4,500.
The changes are expected to affect small and medium size businesses who will have to pay higher salaries to foreign workers, many of these are Indian companies who hire Indian workers.

Earth quake cause people to immigrate from New Zealand , report sasy.

For five months in a row more migrants left New Zealand than arrived; The devastating earthquake of 22 February 2011 prompted people to move to Australia and elsewhere. Permanent migration departures exceeded arrivals by 220 in July of 2011. This five month continuous period of net emigration out of New Zealand is the longest since 2001.
According to Statistics New Zealand, arrivals exceeded departures for the year to July 2011 by only 2,867, the lowest level since the year to October of 2001.

The New Zealand economy may slow down as a consequence, with lower net immigration to New Zealand leading to lower consumption and lower housing demand. New Zealand is still recovering from the earthquake that struck Christchurch on 22 February 2011, killing 180 people and destroying homes and businesses.

Australia is an attractive destination for Kiwis (New Zealanders) struggling to get back on their feet. Australia is only three hours away and has higher average salary rates than New Zealand.
